Video Blog: Snow!

Well, I've never done a video post before… But I couldn't not post this. This is raw footage, so it's a bit messy. Taken with my little point-n-shoot camera. And the wind is bad at times. But I had fun making it, and I had fun watching it again. It demonstrates the events of tonight a whole lot better than I can with just words.

By now the snow has stopped, and the sky has cleared. Now it's going to get really cold. The snow isn't going anywhere tonight.

Oh, the irony

So the other day there was a link on one of my class' websites that didn't work. Turns out there was an extra character at the end of the URL. Out instructor (who is quite opinionated and very forward) e-mailed us to inform us that the link was fixed… And for whatever reason felt the need to add that he was "disgusted" that college students didn't think to google the title to find the video.

Well, this upset someone. Understandably. I was quite annoyed, but as he has been annoying me all term, I didn't think much of it. But this student apparently couldn't resist, and did a reply-all rebuttal, reprimanding our instructor for being a pompous, rude, jerk (basically). Well, I thought this was pretty funny, though quite unnecessary.

And then this student upset another student, who subsequently did a reply-all and sent their own rebuttal. They reprimanded that student for publicly criticizing our instructor. Another student followed suit.

At this point I was quite amused with the way this e-mail conversation was going. And I couldn't help myself…. I had to put in my two cents. All I had to say was "Anyone else see the irony of people publicly reprimanding people for publicly reprimanding people?"

The latest addition… Another student responding to me…. "Amen"

Daily Update: November 17, 2010

This morning started out with class. And finishing a funding proposal. And after that was all done, Teresa and I went to Costco! :)

Wandered around and got what I needed. And looked for our friend, "Costco Bill." He told me they might be hiring at the Eugene Costco (part-time), and called and set up an interview for me!!! :)

And then home, Netflix, some homework…. All in all a good day.

Daily Update: November 16, 2010

Tuesday again. :)

Stayed home most of the day working on formatting old imported blog posts and watching Netflix. Then to campus for a meeting, and club meeting. Fun stuff. Now back home.

Terribly exciting, eh? ;)

Daily Update: November 15, 2010

I missed yesterday. :(

Anyway, today was an OK day. Class, more class, and then home for a bit. Watched some Netflix, had some lunch, then back to campus. Last scuba class of the term, the one where we do our paperwork to get out certification cards!!! And get our temp cards, of course. :) Officially open water certified! Then to the library to meet with my GEO 300 group. Forgot when we agreed to meet, turns out it was 7… Had to catch the bus, so I bailed on them (I took the lead on coordinating our group project, so am exempt from doing the paper anyway, so it was OK). Came home, had dinner, more Netflix. That is all.

Daily Update: November 13, 2010

And… Also a Daily Update. :p

Today started off…. Early. My alarm clock decided to reverse daylight savings and jump forward an hour… Just for fun (it does that). So I had someplace to be at 9:30, and ended up there at 8:30 instead. After being informed that I was confused, I went to Noah's to have a bagel. So all was not lost. At 9:30 I headed back to the Greenbelt office, and we went to our field site to do some work. Yay manual labor for points in GEO 300. We cleared shrubs along a fence line, which was quite satisfying. And then we had pizza. :) And then I came home. And I took a nap. And then I got up, and I haven't really done much since. Hung out with Teresa, played on the computer… Ate ice cream.

Snake sheds

I felt lame posting only Daily Updates for so long, but as nothing has really gone on, there hasn't been much to post. So today I decided I would find something to post. And I did.

On Thursday I went to feed my snakes, and found that Indie was shedding (so I didn't try to feed him). Ery didn't eat, so I went to try again, and now she is shedding.

This is something that is interesting to me. Mac is not shedding, but it's not unusual for him and Indie to shed at the same time. It's like it's contagious or something. When I had Watson (one of Teresa's pythons) at my apartment, she and Indie were on almost the exact same shed cycle. It makes me think of when women live together and sometimes their periods will sync up…. My reptiles sync their shed cycles.

Also, Ery is my fourth snake to shed within a week or two of me bringing them home. Another strange thing, since I think of shedding as an indicator of good health (since it should be an indicator of growth…), and one would think getting set up at a new place would cause stress that would suppress indicators of good health for a bit….. But all 4 corns I have had have shed soon after being brought home… Even Maizey, who died shortly after.

So basically my snakes are weird. If someone has an explanation to them syncing sheds, let me know. Anyone experience similar phenomena? Is it coincidence (even thought it happened with Indie and Watson as well… And arguably Indie and Mac)?

Daily Update: November 12, 2010

Hooray for Friday!

Started off the day with a midterm, and then a couple classes. Not too bad, actually. Came home, played some DDR, and then hung out with Teresa for a while. Ran some errands, and then hung out at my place. More DDR, some Netflix, more DDR, more netflix…. Enjoying some down time, since that was my last midterm of the term. :)

Daily Update: November 11, 2010

Another update! I'm on a roll here!

Started out the morning with some breakfast and Netflix… My favorite way to start the day! To campus for class, bleh, and then back home. Hung out with Teresa, tried to feed the snakes (neither ate, I'll try Ery again in a couple days… Indie is getting ready to shed). Studied some microbio for my midterm tomorrow. Went to Chintimini and spent most of the evening in the outback, but also got to catch a GHO in the ICU (much more successfully than last week, which was my first day of raptor catching). And now I'm back home doing more microbio. I don't feel at all prepared for the midterm, but oh well.

Daily Update: November 10, 2010

Another fairly uneventful day. I went to bed with the start of a headache last night, thinking I'd sleep it off… That used to work. Apparently that doesn't work anymore, as I woke up with a worse headache. Debated for a bit, and decided going to class would only make it worse… And I needed to be able to study fairly rigorously this afternoon. So I stayed home, took some advil, and then managed to sleep my headache away.

Studied this afternoon. Stats homework finished, and some studying for my microbio midterm on Friday. Played some DDR to work off some energy, some more studying, and now I'm ready for bed again.
