Discovery of the Day: Steep

The hill I live on is steep….
I had to walk up it for the first time today. In the rain… With my scooter…. Fun fun.

You have GOT to be kidding me!

OK. So if you’re on Jeopardy, and the topic is “National Parks”, and they show a picture of Delicate Arch you can NOT tell me you don’t know the answer!
It’s Arches, of course!

And it’s Battle of the Champions, no less…..

Life

I’ve been looking at my posts lately, and it seems like almost everything is a “Discovery”. Well, not just seems. That’s fact.
But anyway, that seems weird. I feel like I should be posting something else.
But what’s there to post about? I go to class, I work, I come home, take Ret out, play with Maizey…. Not much to life, I’m afraid. Not much to say.
The funny thing is, when I think about it, it sounds so boring. Yet as I live it, I seem to be enjoying myself. Like there’s more to it than just class, work, taking the dog out, and playing with a snake. I just can’t really articulate it. It’s not something you can say, it’s just something you know.

Yeah, my life may not be full of excitement, but I find it a pretty exciting life anyway.

Discovery of the Day: Friends

I’m not taking Japanese language at OSU anymore. I feel REALLY good about this decision. I’m sick and tired of the way the program is setup. I feel like I’m learning hardly anything, and it’s taking too long to even learn that much. At Chemeketa I learned more in first term than I feel like I’ve learned in my 3 terms at OSU…. So I’m not in the program anymore. And I feel really good about that.

My discovery, though….
I sure wont miss the classes, but I am really going to miss some of the people. I hate the program, but sometimes we can sure have fun…. :)

Discovery of the Day: Anything is possible

Today there was an AG EXEC meeting. It was the day they were giving out funding for clubs, and Bobby asked us to get as many people as possible there to show our appreciation.
Well, last time I went there was 3 of us. This time, we had 11 people there.
I didn’t think we’d get that many people there. I must admit, I was impressed.

Oops, I, um… Broke it???

Well, it’s Dad’s Weekend here at OSU. And for Dad’s Weekend, we Fish & Wildlife Club leaders decided we should have a fun event. And that we did!
Last night we had a great BBQ, and some research talks. That was really cool, and the food was great, but today’s activity… Now that was a BLAST! Is that a pun? I think it is. Sorry.

Why is that a pun? Well, because we were at the campus rifle range!
My mom joined us, because my dad wasn’t going to fly up from California to go to a rifle range…. But that’s OK. My mom and I had a great time. We were both shooting for the first time, and it was a great experience!
I must say, though, the most interesting part was when we “competed”. Parent vs. student. My mom went first, and did pretty well. Then I went… And, well, I’m not really sure if I hit the target. That’s hard to say, though, because halfway through our target fell off. Oops. Well, we can put up a new target…. Or not.
What had happened, was I had shot the screw that held the clip that in turn was holding the target. Blown the screw clean off… They had to fix it, so I guess we were done for that round.
I think I got a few points for where the shrapnel hit though…. Does that count? ;)
Also an interesting point, my mom was aiming for the two bottom targets and ended up hitting the two middle ones instead.

That leads us to open shooting. My mom was shooting again, and the target falls off… Again…..
And she had just about hit the screw as well.
Apparently it’s impressive to do that. Even more so when we both do it.
Her target had shrapnel too.
Our main observation there, however, was in the fact that she was aiming at the top target… As was I when I did that. And the bottom targets, which she was aiming at earlier, were not hitting at all.
Are we just bad shots? Well, it’s possible, but we can most likely attribute part of it to the fact that our scope was REALLY off. One target off. Pretty precisely one target off, but one target none the less.

We got to shoot with a different rifle for the last few minutes, and I was still a pretty bad shot…. They gave us a hard time about being “sharp shooters” for hitting that screw (and in my case, killing it).
We had a great time, though. My vision made it hard to aim, but maybe with some practice I can get the hang of it…. We’ll see if I find myself down at the range sometime.
