Canine Craziness

On Tuesday we planned to pick up Ret after the library closed. Finally! :)

While we were at the library I got on Craigslist to look for a few things. I have some natural instinct to drift towards the pet section no matter what, so I did…. And happened to find something that caught my attention. “Free Aussie Shep to good home”. There was no picture, but my mom and I both wanted to see her. We were certainly tempted…. I e-mailed about it, and after waiting a couple hours with no response I wrote down the information to call. Finally got my mom to call, and it was on… We were to bring Ret later and drive out to meet the dog.

That we did. Probably about 7 miles out of Cottage Grove on the other side from our house we met Pajma.

It was love at first sight. My mom says she looks just like her dog she had when she was a kid.
We took a walk along a trail at the place she lived, and she and Ret chased and played. It was very cute. The previous owner said he felt good about us taking her, and we wanted her.

We’re crazy, but we took her home that day. She and Ret romped in the front fenced area, then I took Ret for a swim while my mom took Paj for a walk. She’s a great dog. A bit squirmy and pretty high energy, but VERY smart. She loves to get Ret to chase her, and finds ways to get him to do so. She learned how to open the temporary dog run gate, so we now have to block it… And we love her.

On the Westie boards we have a “New name” game. Like the one in Captain Underpants, but one of our members customized it. :) It’s one of those “Use the third letter in your name to determine your new name” kind of things. Paj’s “new name” is Marshwiggle, and I thought that was cute… So we decided to make it part of her real name, and her ID tag now says “Pajma Marshwiggle”

Alone again

I have the library to myself again. But that’s not the point of this entry….. Not yet anyway.

The beavs played the best 2 out of 3 championship series against the NC Tar Heels. They lost game one 3-4, but won game two 11-7. It was down to game 3, winner tames all. The game was yesterday….. I got to watch most of it thanks to our new DVR.

The game was tied 2-2 for most of it. Four innings, I think. It was 0-0 for four innings also. A very close game. They had Jonah pitching again…. Third time in the CWS. Poor guy ended up pitching over 300 pitches in less than a week.
Bottom of the 8th, beavers at bat. We got a third run, and put us ahead! :)
Top of the 9th, NC at bat. Bases loaded….. And then they’re out! :) BEAVERS WON!!!!!!!

Beavers are the national champions!!!!!!! Let’s go beavers! :) :):)

National Champions 2006!

One more strike and……….

Waiting…. Waiting….. Gunderson just called time. No balls, two strikes…… Come on….. Come on…… Let’s go beavs! One ball, two strikes. Hit…. And GILLESPIE CAUGHT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We lost game one, but since then…. No keeping us down! I’ll be honest, I’m surprised. And THRILLED! :) 2-0 victory!

Nickerson is amazing…. He just pitched on Monday, and he pitched for us today. I’m so glad he did! I wanted him pitching today, so I’m glad. :)

Saturday OSU will play UNC. Neither were national seeds, so this should be cool.

Let’s go BEAVERS!!!!!!!!
O-MA-HA!
O-MA-HA!
CHAM-PI-ONS!

WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

ONE MORE OUT!!!!!

Beavs beat Rice 5-0 yesterday, and now they’re leading 2-0, bottom of the 9th…..

Let’s go beavers!

They’re beating up our players!

Rice just hit our THIRD player tonight! :(

This third one did force in a run, so it’s not all bad…… We’re now 2-0. And Kunda is batting! :)

But our poor players…. Stop hitting them, Rice pitchers!

Bases are loaded!

Beavs got their revenge last night! :) They pulverized Miami! So now the Beavers have eliminated Georgia and Miami. They’re playing Rice now. :) Who hasn’t lost yet…. But we’ll see if we can fix that!

It’s the top of the 3rd, and beavs have scored the first run to make it 1-0. Bases are loaded, no outs…. Let’s see what happens! :)

Funny thing…. Walks are sponsored by Nebraska Blue Cross Blue Shield, runs (or at least insurance runs… I haven’t picked that up completely yet) are sponsored by State Farms Insurance, and the pitching change was just sponsored by some Nebraska phone company….
Odd stuff to sponsor. :p

Well, either way the Beavs made it to the semi-finals…. That’s pretty darn good! :)

You can’t get rid of us that easily!

Beavs won!!!!! :)

Georgia is out! An awesome double play ended the game, as we faced a home run risk that could win the game for Georgia. Not a chance though…. Beavs did awesome! :)

Out pitching was great today, and Barney (our shortstop) made some great double plays happen. We’ll be playing at 6 PM tomorrow. A win then will put us into the semi-finals!

Our first win of the CWS… Ever! :) Very cool.

Let’s go Beavers!

One more thing

I should sleep… Really….. But one more thing!

Beaver update time!

The Beavs are now in Omaha! They played their first game today, against the Miami Hurricanes. They also experienced what was possibly the shortest rain delay in CWS (College World Series) history: 4 minutes. Unfortunately, there was a SECOND rain delay later on, and I’m not sure how long it was…. But probably at least 30 minutes… I just looked it up and it was 1 hour 34 minutes. It was actually delayed indefinitely, because it was the top of the 8th inning. At that point Miami was leading 7-0.

It will be no surprise at that point to say the Hurricanes won… The final score was 11-1. But the Beavers aren’t done yet! They’ll play Georgia on Monday, and someone will be going home…. Hopefully NOT the
Beavs! We’ll just have to wait and see.

Donkey gelding and other strange stories

On Thursday I stayed at Lenny’s to help with the donkeys. The vet was coming, and donkeys+vet often meant trouble. Just getting the halters on the night before took 4 of us. So I stayed to help… And I didn’t want to be there for the unofficial first day of Summer Reading… Yikes!!!

Anyway, first the vet was several hours late…. Which of course was because of an emergency, so it was OK. But Lenny and I sat around for a while waiting. I was even getting bored of my computer by the time they got there.

When they finally got there we went out to the donkeys. There was 5 of us, so we had a lot of help at hand. They tied Jake up and pinned him to the side of the stall so they could tranq him. Then we were just keeping him on the ground for a while… I had his head, and eventually his neck when he started coming around more… So I saw none of the actual gelding process, which was perfectly fine by me. The tools alone were pretty scary….. For those who don’t know, gelding is neutering…
After that was the easy part, shots. With Jake still mostly out, he was really easy. Augustina was a little harder, but we got her pinned, so it wasn’t too bad.
When that was all done Lenny and I ended up staying out in the barn for about an hour. Poor Jake couldn’t really hold his head up and kept getting it stuck in between the planks that made up the sides of the stall…. So I ended up holding his head for a half hour. We tried to get him to eat a donkey cookie too…. It was cute, because he took it but couldn’t really eat it, so he just held onto it until it dissolved in his mouth.
After an hour I realized I smelled like donkey, and Jake was walking around in the outside pen, so I went in to get a shower… And wait for my mom to pick me up.

There aren’t really any other strange stories. It just made a good title. :p We had a potluck at the library for the ESL class my mom helped at, came up to Independence to pack, I came to stay with Kento, we ate lots of stuff, did stupid stuff…. That “stupid stuff” might make a strange story, but that’s for another time. I need to sleep now.

G’night.

You know what? Guess what!

WE WON!!!!! WE WON!!!!!! WE WON!!!!!!!!!!

I hate typing in all caps, but this warrants it! We won, and the beavs are returning for another go in Omaha! The only returning team! :D Which is obvious because we were the only team who went last year to get a Super this year!

Anyway, the game was AMAZING! The people we sat in front of last night were in front of us tonight, so we got to chat again. My dad says we were the most talkative of all. ;) It was fun though.

Before the game there was practice, of course. Both teams were beating up on the scoreboard quite a bit. At least they weren’t attacking us as much. ;) There was one ball that came directly to the people next to us, and a guy sitting near by reached over and caught it in his mitt. Great catch. :D And we all appreciated that no one got hit in the face.

When the game started, beavs bat first. First inning, four runs. The cards, 0. It continued on like that for a while….. Final score…. 15-0. I told the people in front of us that I’d feel sorry for them when we hit 15. Well, we did, so I felt kinda bad for the cards. Thrilled that the beavs won though! 15-0 is really pretty impressive….. And with only one home run, which only brought in two runs! I’ll get screen shots and pictures up here in a day or two. I think some of my pictures turned out. :)

The cards were pitching lousy today. They went through…. Seven pitchers! OSU used two, and we switched in the 8th inning.

Needless to say, there will be no game 3 in Corvallis tomorrow. And I’m glad! :) I probably wouldn’t have been able to go if there had been. We just kept saying before the game “We’re not thinking about tomorrow.” And a good thing too! :p

Being a part of that… It was kind of phenomenal. We were probably one of the first ten to start the OMAHA! chant (started by some people just to the left and up from us), which of course then traveled throughout the stadium. Really getting into the game…. It was a blast! I can’t wait to go to games regularly…. As a student, of course. If I get the dorm I want I’ll be near the football stadium, basketball colosseum, but most importantly directly across from Coleman Field, the baseball field! :)

Oh, it was great….. So awesome. A day that will be in my memory for a long time…. And will go into my LJ memories!
